Steps for Administering an Adrenaline Auto-Injector in the NVQ Level 3 Award Basic Life Support Anaphylaxis Part Time Course

Administering an adrenaline auto-injector is a crucial skill that can save lives in cases of severe allergic reactions. In the NVQ Level 3 Award Basic Life Support Anaphylaxis part-time course, participants are taught the proper steps to follow when using an adrenaline auto-injector. Below are the steps outlined in the course:

Step Description
1 Check the expiry date on the auto-injector. Do not use if expired.
2 Remove the auto-injector from its case.
3 Hold the auto-injector in your dominant hand with the orange tip pointing downwards.
4 Remove the safety cap by pulling it straight off.
5 Hold the auto-injector firmly against the outer thigh.
6 Swing and push the auto-injector firmly against the thigh until it clicks. This activates the injection.
7 Hold the auto-injector in place for 10 seconds to ensure the full dose is delivered.
8 Remove the auto-injector and massage the injection site for 10 seconds.
9 Seek medical help immediately, even if the person feels better.

It is important to remember that administering an adrenaline auto-injector should only be done by trained individuals who have completed the NVQ Level 3 Award Basic Life Support Anaphylaxis part-time course. Proper training ensures that the injection is given correctly and safely.

By following these steps and receiving proper training, individuals can confidently administer an adrenaline auto-injector in cases of severe allergic reactions, potentially saving lives in emergency situations.
